It can be difficult to really know what we want to do with our lives. Even if we do know what we want, actually making it happen can be an added difficulty. We get overwhelmed, live in fear of the unknown, and underestimate ourselves. One of the biggest places we struggle with creating our ideal life is in relation to our work life and career. Choosing a career is a huge decision and we don’t always have a simple answer. Even if we know what we want to do, we cannot always do it.
We can begin to create a life we like today by taking some action. If you know what you want to do, begin creating the conditions today. I started my company by answering Craigslist ads and doing small jobs on the side when I had a regular day job. If you don’t know, begin brainstorming. Think what you like about work, what would make you happier, and what you can do that may fit your needs.
Many people struggle to find what they want in relationships. We seek out the “perfect” partner and stop dating people because we don’t think they’re the one. So what if the person we’re dating isn’t perfect for us? Can we enjoy it while recognizing that it may not be forever?
When we are ready to settle down, being overly greedy can hurt us. We crave to find the perfect person and get so stuck in our thoughts that we’re not able to see clearly. Try letting go. When I met my partner, I was not looking for a long-term relationship. We were friends, dated casually, and eventually ended up married and together.
Hobbies and Free Time
Hobbies are a great way to relieve anxiety, but we can actually create anxiety for ourselves by worrying about what we should be doing with our free time. What do we like to do with our free time?
Try to find new things to do. You can investigate around things like Meetup.com or Groupon to find ideas. Stay open-minded and see if there are things you may like doing. Try getting outside and hiking, picking up a new art or craft, or learning about something you’ve always been interested in.
Spirituality and Growth
Seeking growth is an important part of our lives. Many of us enjoy moving forward in some way, whether it is a self-help method or a spiritual tradition. There are many different spiritual paths people take. Investigate different practices like meditation, yoga, or other practices. Dive into some popular methods of self-help and self-growth. Keep yourself moving forward even if you don’t know exactly where you’re headed.
